GCC to Review Yemen Proposal
GCC to Review Yemen Proposal english.alarabiya.net On June 14 members of the Gulf Cooperation Council gathered in Riyadh, to discuss the situation in Yemen, and review proposals to help end the crisis. The GCC's proposals, which so far have aimed at providing a peaceful transition of power, were rejected by Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh on three previous occasions. The UAE's foreign minister and president of the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, spoke to reporters about the GCC's stance on the issue, and of its role in the Yemen crisis. "We expressed our concerns about developments in the Arab world and at the top of these concerns was the worrying and unstable situation in Yemen. We have together exerted a great effort to work on conciliation and reconciliation, and certainly will continue our tireless efforts in this regard," he said. This news coincides with the ongoing protests that struck Yemen's capital Sana'a on Tuesday, leaving much of the city's infrastructure paralyzed. The rejection of the previous proposal in May, led to two weeks of bloody fighting in Sana'a, and this fact alone, has led analysts to predict another period of bloodshed.
