I surprised my girlfriend on our first night in Maui on April 3, 2011, by proposing to her. I had this moment planned for several months so needless to say I was extremely nervous. I secretly planned a romantic candlelight dinner on a private floating cabana during sunset at our hotel, the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. This day happened to fall on our 1.5 year anniversary so I already made a card for her and I pretended to buy a gift at the hotel's gift shop. The gift was actually her engagement ring! I struggled to come up with a way to videotape the proposal and ultimately decided to pretend I was videotaping the beautiful sunset. As she was opening her card I turned the video camera on her. So the beginning of the video is pretty boring as I tape the sunset. Once I turn the camera on my girlfriend it gets a little better. My spoken proposal is extremely weak because I was so emotional and couldn't speak. I knew I wouldn't be able to talk so I put the words in writing in the card I created. The look on her face when she realizes there is an engagement ring in the jewelry box is priceless! I hope you enjoy!
