"Will you marry me?" "No way!" A pair of the green-veined white (either Pieris napi japonica or P. melete) in the family Pieridae. The female on the leaf refused the male's passionate proposal by lifting her tail. Early-July 2008 in Japan. スジグロシロチョウ／エゾスジグロシロチョウのどちらか。写真同定は難しいそうです。シロチョウ科の交尾拒否行動を初めて実際に見ました。♀にその気が無い場合、尾部を持ち上げて意思表示をします。♂は未練がましく求愛を続けましたが、最後は脈無しと分かったのか上を通りがかった別個体を追って飛び立ちました。
